I’ve been dreaming about these New Year’s mini sessions for a long time and they somehow managed to be even more fun than I imagined.
These sessions at the studio in Alexandria, Virginia were designed as a joyful New Year’s Eve–inspired celebration just for families. Think: confetti tosses, party hats, star-shaped sunglasses, streamers, kazoos, and that unmistakable “we’re starting fresh” energy that comes with a brand new year.
Fast-paced, playful, colorful, and full of personality. They were an absolute blast from start to finish.
Classic Portraits + Pure Celebration
One of my favorite things about these sessions was the balance. We had time for a few more traditional family portraits, the kind you’ll frame and hang, and then leaned fully into the fun.
Kids danced. Parents laughed. Confetti flew everywhere.
There was so much genuine joy in the room.
These minis were a perfect reminder that family photos don’t have to be stiff or serious to be meaningful.
Why Play Matters in Family Photos
When kids are given permission to be silly, expressive, and fully themselves, the magic happens. These sessions weren’t about perfection — they were about connection, movement, and celebrating your family exactly as you are right now.
The result? Photos that feel alive. Photos that feel like you.

While these New Year’s minis were all sparkle and celebration, I’m already excited about what’s next. ✨
Winter mini sessions are coming soon, and while they won’t be themed, they’ll still be just as fun. Think:
- A classic white studio backdrop
- Clean, timeless images
- Plenty of personality (always)
