If you’re a parent with a toddler, the idea of a photoshoot might seem overwhelming. However, by letting go of perfection and embracing the chaos, you can turn your newborn session into a memorable and enjoyable experience for the entire family!
Letting Go for Beautiful Photos
I’ve covered this before when sharing “How to ENJOY your Newborn Session“, but it warrants repeating…
“Letting go” fast tracks you to those beautiful photos that “feel” like YOU.
When YOU are relaxed, you’ll be naturally more joyful, you’ll give off a calm patient energy that will positively impact everyone in the room (even an unruly toddler!), and you’ll be more open to your photographer’s creative ideas.
If you’re feeling stuck, exploring the reasons behind the overwhelming feelings associated with newborn sessions can help you overcome hesitations and truly enjoy the experience.
Lettings Littles Lead the Way
I know a lot of parents worry about how big brother or big sister will act at a newborn session. Especially if they are under 5.
I’m here to tell you: you have nothing to worry about!
We’ll let big brother or big sister lead the way.
We won’t push them or force them to do anything they don’t want to do. Instead, we’ll make it a game!
And if it doesn’t work the first time, we’ll let them take a break and try again later.
It’s all about the energy we bring as the adults in the room. Patience, understanding and flexibility always work wonders!
The Truth About Family Photos
Here’s the number one thing I’ve learned in my 11+ years taking family photos:
It’s OKAY if your kids don’t listen.
It’s OKAY if your kids don’t look directly at me and smile.
It’s OKAY if they want to explore and do their own thing.
It’s OKAY if they do something silly that I didn’t ask for.
It’s OKAY if there is chaos.
It’s OKAY if they are just being kids!
We will always, always, always, get shots you adore. And if your kids do ALL of the above, your photos will just be that much more authentic!
So there’s not need to stress over what your kids are doing, force them to do something they don’t want to do, or worry if they aren’t being “perfect.”
An enjoyable newborn session experience is all about embracing imperfections, letting go of unrealistic expectations, and allowing authenticity to shine through. By understanding that chaos and unpredictability are natural parts of family life, you can approach their newborn session with a sense of joy and appreciation for the genuine moments captured. After all, the most cherished memories often come from the unscripted, beautiful chaos of family life.
