Answering Newborn Session FAQs! | Washington, DC Newborn Photographer

Today on the blog: Newborn FAQs!

πŸ“… How early should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn session as early as you can! Most expecting parents reach out once they’ve entered their second trimester.

πŸ“· When do you take newborn photos?

I like to shoot within the first 2-3 weeks of baby’s life! Because I’m not a posed newborn photographer, I don’t need the baby to be teensy-tiny and super squishy. I’m also an advocate for giving parents (and older siblings) some time to adjust to having this new little one in their lives! More on that here!

🏠 I’m worried my house won’t photograph well!

Don’t be!! I know it sounds crazy, but I *promise* if you have at least ONE window, I can make it work! I bust the myth on the “perfect” home here.

⏰ How long does a newborn session take?

My newborn sessions last anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours depending on how baby is doing on that particular day! I like to have some cushion so that we have time to feed baby, change baby, soothe baby if we need to – and not feel rushed!

πŸŽ€ What should my baby wear?

I have an entire Baby Closet for my newborn clients, complete with knot gowns, hats, bows, swaddles, and a Moses basket! I’m also ALL for anything you have your heart set on. And you can run it by me first if you’re worried it won’t photograph well. Oh also, I’m almost always going to request we get your baby in JUST their diaper 😍

πŸ‘–What should Mom & Dad wear?!

My number one rule is comfort!! I’m not going to force you to wear a maxi dress if you’d rather wear a chunky sweater and jeans. I want you to love what you’re wearing and love how you feel in it! My only requirement is you run the colors by me. Certain colors can sometimes cast a strange hue on baby’s face – so you’ll want to avoid those colors!
